Trivia

  1. Created by Donn Beach, better known as Don the Beachcomber, in the 1930s at his Hollywood bar in California. He limited the Zombie to a two-drink maximum, lest it made you “like the walking dead”.

  2. As the story goes, the name of the cocktail derives from it being a hangover cure for one of Donn’s regulars. The customer who drank it allegedly said it made him feel like a zombie.

  3. Donn Beach was very secretive about his recipes, following several instances where other people presented the recipes as their own. The Zombie recipe listed here comes from the work done decades later by Jeff “Beachbum” Berry. Berry spent a lot of time tracking and decoding old notebooks, and interviewing former employees from Donn’s bars in order to land with the original recipes.
