Hints

  1. The Pimm’s Cup can be made using a mix of lemonade (carbonated) and ginger ale, or only one of the two. You can also use lemon juice and soda to impart some carbonation, but make sure you add some sugar to balance the drink.

  2. The Pimm’s Cup lends itself to be made in a pitcher (like a Sangria) to serve to a larger group of people. If you do, add whichever fizzy drink you chose at the time of serving so you don’t lose its effervescence.

  3. Some people prefer muddling the ingredients before adding the ice and the liqueur. This will impart more flavor to the drink.

  4. This cocktail has traditionally been linked with summer, hence why strawberries, fresh mint and citrus fruits are used. Consider using ingredients which are related to summer in your area when making this cocktail.

Trivia

  1. This cocktail, created in 1840, is one of only two official drinks at the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament (the other being Champagne). The first Pimm’s Bar was opened in Wimbledon in 1971.

  2. Pimm’s No. 1 was created in 1823 by James Pimm, the owner of an oyster bar in London. He served it as a digestif in a small tankard known as a “No. 1 Cup”.

  3. There are five other versions of the British liqueur, each with a different alcoholic base. For instance, No. 1 uses gin, No. 2 uses Scotch, No. 3 brandy, and so on.
