Trivia

  1. The oldest publication of the Army & Navy is found in The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks (1948) by David A. Embury. Embury does say, however, that the original cocktail predates him, and that it used to be made with a 2:1:1 ratio, which he did not care for (his is 8:2:1).

  2. The name of the cocktail is potentially a reference to the Army-Navy American football game which happens every year in the United States. It could also be a reference to where the cocktail might've been created: The Army and Navy Club in Washington, DC.

  3. The Army-Navy game is an American college football rivalry between the Army Black Knights of the US Military Academy and the Navy Midshipmen of the US Naval Academy. They play once every year, and have done so since November 29, 1890.
